it all started when . . .

I suppose you could say we followed our calling into natural & integrative medicine. We grew up in a family that was health conscious and as we explored careers; professions that supported the healing of the body resonated strongly. After all, as the saying goes “Health is one’s greatest wealth!”

My love for people, health, and natural healing began in the seventh grade. My parents were fitness and health advocates. My mother had always shared her interested in health with the family.

My journey into the natural health field started after a move from Colorado to Texas, where my sisters and I were diagnosed with recurrent middle ear infections and my youngest sister began developing asthma. Our health seemed to be deteriorating rapidly, we were on repeat antibiotics. My mother searched for an alternative and found a D.O., almost immediately our health started improving. I was fascinated by the field of natural medicine, and my heart was always there.

In College, I studied Biological Sciences at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with the intent to continue to Naturopathic medical school. Following graduation, I attended a post-graduate, four-year medical program at the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM) in Portland Oregon. At NCNM most of my medical internships were completed at Outside In, a medical clinic outreach to Portland’s homeless youth.

After graduating from NCNM and passing my naturopathic clinical board exams, I worked under Dr. Sawhill in Beaverton, Oregon. In 2011 I opened my own practice in San Luis Obispo, California. I had two wonderful years practicing general naturopathic medicine at Santa Lucia Birth Center alongside Midwives.

In the autumn of 2013, My husband and I relocated to Spokane, Washington, where we enjoy the rivers, trails, mountains, and the community. I was blessed to be able to practice alongside Dr. Graves and Dr. Morical before moving to the Argonne location, where I could offer more appointment availabilities.

I believe my role as a physician is to support and guide my patients. I believe a nourishing diet, daily joy, and an active lifestyle are the foundation for health and wellness. However due to modern stresses, genetics, and epigenetics, and environmental factors most Americans will benefit from quality supplementation. A healthy person may need few-if any additional support, however, if a person is suffering from a chronic condition, a more aggressive treatment plan is the best.

I am interested in all things health! Nutrition, Nutraceuticals, Nutritional Genomics (including MTHFR), Hormones (Thyroid and Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy), Botanical medicine, Homeopathic medicine, Drainage therapy (UNDA numbers), Injection therapies, IV therapy, bioresonance medicine (MORA), and ART (Autonomic Response Testing).

My professional affiliations include:

American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP)

Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians (WANP)

My experience with acupunture began in high school, working and assisting at my acupuncturist’s office. I was fascinated by the body’s ability to heal with simple assistance from carefully placed needles into the facia. I continued to receive acupuncture care while I was an undergraduate at the University of California San Diego studying International Studies and Economics. While I was passionate about natural medicine and nutrition, I had convinced myself that I wanted to be an investment banker.

Upon graduation, I entered the job market and was dismayed by my career options. Every interview felt forced, no jobs excited me, and I settled for work which made me feel anything but alive. I decided two years later that I needed to be true to myself, follow my passion and to create a life that I love. I considered pursuing graduate studies in nutrition or acupuncture but quickly decided on acupuncture and Chinese medicine because I was drawn to the medicine’s ability to treat the body, mind and the spirit.

The beauty of the medicine to work at all levels of our being is quite amazing. The benefits that I received over the years from this incredible medicine encouraged me to pursue a path where I could be of service to others and be a force of good in this world, helping to create a healthier and happier world. I find happiness in assisting others to feel better and feel more connected with their bodies.

I began my studies in Eastern medicine in 2009 and graduated from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego in 2013 with my Master’s of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine (MSTOM). This rigorous four-year program included Chinese acupuncture and Five Element acupuncture, and classical herbal medicine. I completed my clinical rotations at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, and my clinical externship rotations at UCSD Cancer Center, as well as two rotations in the Pacific Beach Free Clinic, serving the homeless and underprivileged San Diego populations. Following my graduation from PCOM, I passed the California state exam and the National licensing exams. I am currently licensed to practice acupuncture and Chinese medicine in California and Washington. I am a board-certified herbalist and a National Diplomate of Chinese medicine.

My other passion is yoga. In fall of 2013, I studied yoga in Thailand and received my teacher’s certificate through a Yoga Alliance certified program on the island of Koh Samui. The sense of peace, calm, and clarity I receive through practice inspires me daily. I enjoy hiking, dance, camping, and nature. My family is important to me. I love to spend time with my husband, our son, my daughter, and my dog.
